A vendetta?

There seems to be some sort of vendetta against me going on over at the Dark Lord Potter forums.

Strange. Do they think that they hurt me by complaining about how much they hate my fanfiction? If I cared what others thought about me, I certainly wouldn't be writing and posting it online. That's just asking for abuse from others. I honestly don't care what anyone thinks about me. I would take too much time worrying about everyone else but me. Sorry, I have no time for anyone. Just me! I'm graduating from college. I don't have time to sleep at this point. (Look at the time I posted this. Yes, I'm still awake!)

I find it slightly amusing that they waste their time complaining. After all, it's time they'll never get back. I guess everyone needs something to complain about.

"Dark Lord Potter?" It's like saying "Dark Lord Bunny Rabbit". Both are cute, fluffy, and sweet. Beware the sharp, pointy teeth! (If you get that pop culture reference, I'll give you a virtual cookie.)

  1. The DLP people can be really great (like nonjon, IP82, and jbern), but most of them it seems are real assholes. They have very specific ideas about what makes a good story, and if you don't follow those, then you get killed in the forums.

  2. So I have discovered.

Pardon me, but I don't think Harry having a three way with the twins and Dobby makes for a good HP story.

I honestly don't know why they care about me at all. *shrug*

  3. indeed :) I had a story ripped apart by some of them. Actually, they seemed to be torn, as my story was HHr, and they didn't like that (as a side note, why in the world are fanfic stories seemingly always defined by their ships?!?!?), but liked some of the other things in my story. But then Harry was too smart, Harry was too alone, yadda yadda yadda. I quit listening to them.

BTW, I guess the twins count as one in your statement? :P

  4. That just freaks me out. The twins! Sorry, random acts of sex just don't happen like that.

  5. Ships. I just don't even bother. There's so much you can do without ships in the stories. I have to admit, the number of people asking/demanding certain ships is starting to get to me. How many times do I have to say that romance is not the focus before they start listening? *grumble, grumble*

Oh, well. I'm off to class now. Talk to you later. ;)

  6. oh, my hopes and dreams have been dashed before my eyes! Random sex acts like that don't happen? Somebody better tell Kinsfire! :P

You would think that people would start getting tired of the ships. I mean, how many more ways can Harry and Ginny / Hermione / Draco get together? You can pretty much skip over the romance parts of a lot of the stories (even the good ones), as they all basically read the same way. There are a few people who seem to be pushing the bar (like jbern).

I sort of understand that fanfiction is an escape, and people want to read about something fantastic, but when they start with such pre-conceived notions, I have to wonder why they just don't write it themselves.

Anyway, hope you had a good class!

  7. Well, there were three classes. The first was great. The second had a pop quiz and the third had a test. Blah.

I did have a meeting with my professor about my thesis. Things are going well there.

I have to agree with you about the preconceived notions. The stories do become a bit trite over time.

Start of story: shipped characters dance around feelings/discover feelings for each other. Once feelings have been discovered: the characters angst a bit, ponder ways to pique the other character's interest, etc. After that, there are two ways to go: ship helps main character defeat all obstacles and foes before the happily ever after OR all foes and obstacles are defeated, and then happily ever after comes in form of relationship. Insert character names and places as you wish. Story done.

    BORING!

And about the twins (as I realize that I didn't actually answer you), I'm a twin. My sister and I still refer to ourselves in the singular. It's frightening.

  8. You have reminded me how much I like being graduated :)

I really agree with you about the romance. Too many writers seem to be torn between which story line should take priority: the romance or the defeat of the big baddie. It's very similar to the 'independent harry' storylines:

    harry discovers manipulations by dumbles

    goes on shopping trip

makes friends with the goblins, usually by remembering griphook's name.

discovers himself to be insanely rich

purchases new wand, compartment trunk, possibly a snake, and a bunch of books.

et cettera. For a while I contemplated writing a madlib-type template that had all of these elements, and they could just fill in a few names, places, and such. But that just seemed to be too much work.

That's cool that you're twins. I can't imagine what that would be like beyond a general 'cool.' :)

If you would like to continue, why not email (josh.charles@gmail.com) so we're not filling up the comment space?
